St Edmundsbury Open - 15th June 2008
"Day Two"

by Laura Honey, Frampton-on-Severn SC
The second of the back-to-back Opens at SESCA gave more wind and the now expected very close racing throughout the day. In the First Race Witts made the start and steadily increased his lead to win by a comfortable margin. Meanwhile behind, a battle ensued between Hall and Tompkins with Tompkins taking 2nd place.

Wiltshire first to windward

Race 2 saw Mark Wiltshire first to the windward mark and lead for a lap and a half with Laura Honey tucked in behind. The previous day's top four Hall, Witts, Hanson and Tompkins all made slower progress off the line but eventually Witts overhauled the leaders to take the gun with Wiltshire 2nd and Honey 3rd to make a Frampton hat-trick.

Scruff in flightRace 3 saw class chairman Barry Graver fly from the starting line to lead at the windward buoy closely pursued by Hall and Witts. After many place changes in the increasing fluky conditions, Graver regained the lead on the final lap for a popular win with Hall and Witts tucked in behind and Mark Wiltshire gaining ground rapidly on the last but one leg, taking advantage of a freshening breeze.

Laura Honey ended up best lady for the second day with Elaine Gillingham 2nd and Abby Freeley 3rd. Taking a break from his National 12, Gerald Copsey scored a very credible 7/7/6 to finish 8th overall,  with his son Nick sailing maturely and finishing in 10th place with fellow junior Tim Lupton in 12th.

Final Positions
1st - Roger Witts, Frampton
2nd - Colin Hall, Hunts
