St Edmundsbury Open - 14th June 2008
"Day One"

by Laura Honey, Frampton-on-Severn SC

British Moths returned to SESCA, near Bury St Edmunds, for the 2nd running of a 2-day Open with each day counting towards the National Somerville Series, the charming Suffolk Lake being the furthest eastern venue for the British Moths.

St Eds Day One 2008

In  varying conditions through the day racing was dominated by Roger Witts of Frampton-on-Severn S.C. in "Scruff" 871, winning all 4 races. However Witts had to fend off strong challenges from Colin Hall, Hunts S.C. in "Ockhams Razor" 856, in virtually every race, often involving place changes on the final leg.

Racing was very close for the rest of the fleet and each race saw a different leader at the windward mark on the first lap, positions changing regularly. The visitors soon adjusted to the tricky SESCA conditions and it was Ian Hanson from Rollesby S.C. in "70+" 844, who sailed steadily through the day to finish 3rd overall.

Witts & Hall

Best result from the home club was Gary Tompkins at 4th in "Vapourer" 862.
